My Perfect Weekend...

Head north on I-10 toward the Grand Canyon and don't forget to swing by Sedona on the way. If you are traveling in the winter make sure your hotel at the Grand Canyon has a hot tube for a perfect ending to a day of hiking. Check out the IMAX theatre near the park entrance for some really great scenes. Drive through the Grand Canyon Park and head toward the town of Kayenta which is just south of Monument Valley. Don't bother seeing the valley in the middle of the day, wait until just before sunset to really appreciate the beauty of it all. If you chose to pay one of the Navajo guides to take you through the valley, you are in for a real adventure. Be sure to take your camera and hang on for the ride of your life. Don't forget, if you are a beer drinker, take your own because no alcohol is served on the Reservation. From Kayenta cut across to Canyon de Chelly located in the small town of Chinle. You can either pay to have a guide drive you to the bottom of the canyon but I would recomend hiking down for a better view. There are natives that live in the canyon so please be respectful. From Canyon de Chelly drive to the Petrified Forest and check it out. There are checkpoints so don't get caught smuggling any of the petrified wood out of the park. From there head down through the White Mountains and enjoy the cooler temperatures before heading back to Tucson. The entire trip is about 5 days and make sure you have a good travel buddy.
